Let’s say you’re touching up this adorable picture of my little squishy angel dog, Pearl. Why would you though? She’s perfect. Anyway, lets do this.

Your Swatches menu is located right next to the Color menu, which is located in the upper right portion of your Photoshop screen. When you click on the Swatches menu you will see all the preloaded colors that Photoshop comes with automatically.

Next, you want to click on the Eyedropper Tool or Press “I”. For this tutorial, we’re going to pick out a pink in one of Pearl’s toys. Once you’ve selected your color, click on the Create New Swatch icon located next to the Trashcan icon in the Swatches menu.

When you click on the Create New Swatch icon, it will give you the option to name your new color. You don’t have to do this, but its fun. So do it. I’m naming this color “Pink Toy” for obvious reasons. Next, you click OK and your color is saved for the remainder of your work. Ta-da!
