“It is just that we should be grateful, not only to those with whose views we may agree, but also to those who have expressed more superficial views; for these also contributed something, by developing before us the powers of thought.” – Aristotle.
As geeks and non-geeks we should know just by sight alone that we are all different. Yeah we may have similar style, or interests, or ideas, but we are also different. While we may have things in common our world views may be vastly the opposite of each other. This conflicting set of world views are called contraxioms. By definition, a contraxiom is a matched pair of contasting axioms to which gives rise to a diverse set of world views.
Our country, and many others for that matter, are all fueled by the work of others. Their particular world views set the economic flourish that we see in modern day United States or China. This does not go without saying it was theirs and theirs alone that prospered. It takes the work of many; the world views of many people who have ideas of what should be and what should not be. From a tech geek like myself, the world views I know are conflictious in terms of an individual who may want to talk about sports or international affairs. We may come to a conversation standstill or our views of the topics may lead to displeasure and irritation with that person. However, if we learn better communication strategies and put us in the same work zone or team us up for a potential project, our ideas may clash and transform two separate views into one creative and productive course of action.
“A good team, like a good show, comes into being when the separate individuals working together create, in essence, another separate higher entity – the team – the show – which is better than any of those individuals can ever be on their own.” – Gary David Goldberg.
This video, while pretty extreme, is example of how when individuals come together greater things can be accomplished. Teamwork is the key to success. Take Steve Jobs for example, and the legendary Apple. Through his idea, and a group of people who believed in his vision. The company we know and love came to existence.
