Future Possibilities

When we think of the future two possible things come to mind, either the world is turned into a post apocalyptic wasteland where you have to fight for your life or a utopia where humanity and technology become one and life is easy.

In the video above we see film maker Morgan Spurlock as he travels down the road of a futurist and goes through just a few of the steps it takes to possibly live forever. So what is a futurist exactly? In short, Futurists are people who desire to see what the world will be like long past their lifetime. So, in order to see the future they attempt to extend their life on this planet with the technology that they have access to. And this doesn’t come at a small price. They may take stem cells from their own bodies and use them to have their organs copied, or scan their entire bodies and even parts of their consciousness into a computer. One thing is for sure is that futurism isn’t for everyone whether it be a personal choice or a lack of wealth.

So, why would we want to live forever or even just a little longer to see the future. Even today we have so many things that we didn’t have the ability to do decades ago. We have the ability to not only clone organs but a whole human, but this isn’t seen as ethical. But we do have the option  to choose how our future children can come out. Whether we want them to have blue eyes, blonde hair or green eyes, brown hair. Though we have this option many find it unethical.

One Futurist, Ray Kurzweil, believes that in the 2030’s we will be ‘Godlike’ with the help of nanomachines I mean…….nanobots. These little robots will be inside of our bodies and can help us to be better humans. We could have the power to be smarter, or would the nanomachi-… nanobots be smarter? This raises the question about how comfortable we would be with having robots within our bodies. Could we imagine having living, thinking robots inside of our brains? A problem I think that many would have with nanobots is the risk of malfunctions. What if one day your nanobots perceived you as a threat? Something that was designed and implanted to better your life could end it in an instant.

So, whether we are expecting death, destruction, and mayhem or glistening cities with flying cars and robots the future will get here and it will get here quick. So don’t wait and prepare yourself for the future.
