How to Create a Custom Brush in Adobe Illustrator

Have you ever wanted to create a beautiful hand-lettered piece, but aren’t actually very good at hand-lettering? Well I have a quick solution for you! In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to create a custom calligraphy brush in Adobe Illustrator that you can use to create the same effect!

1. Open a new file in Adobe Illustrator

2. Open the Brushes window

3. Click the dropdown arrow in the upper right-hand corner and select “New Brush”

4. Select “Calligraphic Brush” then click okay

5. This window will appear and rename the brush to whatever you would like

6. Change the default settings to Angle: -130, Roundness: 49%, and Size: 25 pt

7. Your new calligraphy brush will appear in the Brush window

8. To start using your brush, select the Paintbrush option in the Tool Bar

9. Start doodling with the new brush to get used to how it flows

10. Create whatever design you would like!

11. Enjoy your designs with your new brush!
