Scrubbing through footage and setting in and out points in Premiere Pro CC
- Open Premiere and create a new project
- This is how I have my workspace set up for single screen editing. This is completely customizable, and can be set up however you’d like it. My project window is in the top left of the screen. Press the “~” key to maximize the window.
- Then right click anywhere in the window to create a new bin (aka folder). You can also press cmd+b as a shortcut.
- After you make the appropriate bins for your project, they will sho up like this in your project window.
- Double click on a bin to open it. It will open in a new window. You can drag and drop that window onto the other current window that encloses the project tab. It will then show up like this.
- Then within the footage bin, right click and press import. Or press cmd+I as a shortcut.
- Find and select all of the footage from your project, and import it.
- Click the button on the right to show the clips in thumbnail view, and the button on the left for list view. To adjust the size of the thumbnails, slide the slider back and forth. Having a larger thumbnail can be useful for scrubbing through clips.
- Your footage will look like this in the thumbnail window view. To quickly scrub through a clip to see its contents, move the mouse cursor left and right over the thumbnail.
- Double click on a clip to open it. Here you can more accurately scrub through and decide on the parts of the clip you want.
- Press “I” to set the in point an “O” to set the outpoint. Then you can drag that section of the clip onto the timeline by grabbing the clip anywhere.
- You can also drag in video without the audio or audio without the video.
And that is about it. This method is useful for efficiently culling through large volumes of footage, and accurately and quickly getting the portions of a clip you need.
