Everything Is Not What It Seems: Love How Uniquely Made You Are

Have you ever looked at a magazine and thought about how beautiful or flawless that the person looks? The truth is that those are probably not the real thing. The media has a large tendency of editing pictures to make the men and women look as though they are perfect in every way. I’m here to tell you that everything is not what it seems to be in the real world. As a female, I have been guilty of looking at the magazines or TV and see all the beautiful people.

Magazines such as Cosmopolitan and other popular magazines have portrayed women as skinny and having flawless skin. There are many young girls that will look at these magazines and see that is what they are supposed to look like when they are growing up. When it comes to the image that we need to portray, women get the short end of the stick in that category. Society says that we need to have certain body type and that’s what everyone sees women as. This is what I believe is why there are so many women that are starving themselves or even altering the way that God initially made them. It disgusts me to see women (even young girls) try and “improve” on what is already so perfect about them. Studies show that women who look at the attractive models on the cover hate them but they still buy the magazines anyways. I have had times where I have doubted the way that I look like but I would still never buy the magazine at all.

So many women have either been through an eating disorder or have thought about doing suicide because they do not look like those fabulous women that are on the magazines. One eating disorder that they typically get is Anorexia Nervosa and this is when they try and force their bodies to lose weight. This is a serious disorder and shouldn’t be taken for granted. People that have this are starving themselves to possibly death just so that they can look like models. It makes me grossed out on the inside because no woman should ever feel doubt about who God made them to be in this world. Society forces women, more than men, to convince them that being so thin that you look unhealthy is a great thing. In reality, it’s tearing women and young girls down. It’s such a shame when girls have low self-esteem about their bodies. According to a study, 90% of women typically diagnosed as Anorexic in their life.

So with all of the bad things in the world, who would ever think that there is any way that girls would stop being judgmental of who they are? Turns out that there is! Here in the last years or so, there has been the rising of plus-sized models on the covers of magazines. These women are showing society that you don’t have to be a size 0 to be absolutely beautiful. I know for a fact that I am not a size 0, but I know for a fact that I am beautiful no matter was people tell me. I wish that I could tell every young girl that is feeling insecure about their bodies that it’s okay that we do not have to like those on the cover of the magazine. What every girl needs to know is that pretty much every magazine photoshops those pictures. Those women are real but at the same time they’re not. There are so many things that you can tell yourself when you are feeling insecure. Overall, I believe that you should always tell yourself that you are worth it in this world and not compare your body to the models on magazines.

I believe that God has made each of us the way we are supposed to be. Girls are the group that are especially affected by society’s opinion on what a girl is supposed to look like. We are all different and there is not one person that is the same. God has made each of us to be unique. We are uniquely made to change the world and we shouldn’t let society take that away from us.
